Walking in Pembrokeshire
Pembrokeshire is renowned for walkers and all our customers hiring a glamping experience in one of our bell tents tipis and yurts will not be disappointed. Pembrokeshire has great walking opportunities with over 950km of public footpaths and bridleways either along the beautiful coast line or through the Preseli Hills/mountains. With a host of either circular walks or public transport linking linear routes for all abilities and moods there is sure to be something in Pembrokeshire that will enhance you glamping stay and show the try beauty of the landscape.
Whether you are staying in one of our bell tents or tipis or fancy taking advantage of hiring one of our ranges of Superb Terra Nova backpacking tents to undertake one of the walks or even the famous 186 mile costal path the choice is yours. Pembrokeshire Coastal Path and National Trail
Pembrokeshire Coastal path is one of the UK’s 15 National Trails, 186 miles in length it spans from Poppit to Amroth passing 58 beaches and 14 harbours and provides walkers with dramatic views of flooded glacial valleys, undulating red limestone bays, volcanic headlands, steep limestone cliffs and of course spectacular sea views making every mile unique and awe inspiring. Along the length there are numerous picturesque villages and towns including Tenby, St Davids, Solva and Newport. Services by a year round bus service covering the entire path means you can walk sections at will and at your own pace returning to our bell tents or camp along the way using our backpacking rental tents.
The Pembrokeshire national trail came three in an international pool of top ten routes in the world, only beaten to the top by Appalachian Trail in Georgia, USA and the Santiago de Compiste la Pilgrims walk from France to Northern Spain

The entire route can be completed in 11 days for those who are fit enough and are prepared to put in long days or can be walked at a more relaxed pace over 15 days, giving you time to explore the passing villages and towns along the walk. Sections include the following:-

St Dogmael’s to Newport Town is considered the most challenging section of the Coast Path it is 15.5 miles long has very steep hills frequently along it. Given the strenuousness of this section you may decide to split it in two and do over two days Moylgrove. Whatever you decide make sure you take plenty of provisions with you and are adequately equipped to deal with the walk. Newport to Fishguard on day two is 12 miles and is a lot more level than day 1. Campsites include Fishguard Bay Campsite tel 01348811415
Fishguard ro Pwll Deri on day 3 is 9 miles long walk along volcanic 30 to 70 m cliffs. This section comprises of frequent rocky outcrops, loose volcanic stone, and loads of heather. Pwll Deri to Porthgain on day 4 is 12 miles and takes in stacks of dramatic sheer cliffs along its length. Around a mile and half before Porthgain are two campsites slightly inland at Trefin Prendergast Caravan Park, Trefin, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire. SA62 5AU. PorthGain to Whitesands on day 5 is a remote feeling and rugged in places section of the trail 10 miles long is an exhilarating along the high cliffs and beneath the dramatic volcanic outcrops of Pen Beri, Carn Lleithyr and Carn Llidi, finishing at Whitesand its worth ending the day with cake and hot chocolate in the cafe. Whitesands to Solva section on day 6 is close to shops and facilities this 13 mile section is popular with walkers making use of the bus shuttle. Campsites include Nine Wells Caravan & Camping Park, Nine Wells, Nr. Solva to Broad Haven on day 7 covering 12 miles of walking has a series of very steep hills with up to 100 steps Northwest of Newgale and south of Newgale there are a series of less steep hills. Broad Haven to Martin’s Haven on day 8 covers 11 miles and takes in beautiful low red cliffs and cliff tops abundant in wild flowers. Martin’s Haven to Dale on day 9 covers 10 miles and is mainly easy walking on mainly level ground only dotted with occasional short steep climbs. This section is varied in nature and takes in spectacular view of Skomer, Skokolm and Grassholm islands. This section is popular with day walkers taking advantage of the bus shuttle service. Dale to Neyland on day 10 is a long walking section covering 16 miles it is highly advisable to check the tides are out for the two tidal crossing to avoid the tedious long road detours. Neyland to Angle on day 11 is again a long days walking contains many sheltered woodland sections and passes Pembroke castle which is welcome opportunity for break and peak. Camp sites include Castle Farm, Angel, Pembrokeshire, SA71 5AR, tel 01646641220
Angle to Freshwater West on day 12 is a challenging and remote section entirely coastal with no amenities along the route so please remember to carry everything you need and be adequately equipped to deal with the walk. Freshwater West to Broad Haven South on day 13 is 10 miles of mainly level walking passing through one of the UK’s most important and strongly designated wildlife sanctuaries; unfortunately much of this area has limited access due to military restrictions being a live firing range. However much of which can be experienced by crossing Range East from Stack Rocks to Broad Haven, which is open weekends, bank holidays, and most evenings after 4.30, however just to be on the safe side, and to avoid been blown up check access by calling the recorded information on 01646 662367. Haven to Skrinkle Haven on day 14 is an 11 mile quite undulating walk close to beaches, villages and public houses. This section really provides the walker with views worthy of national park status. This section of the coastal path also crosses one of the most beautiful beaches in the world Barafundle Beach. Skrinkle to Amroth on this the 15th and final day of the walk is probably the least remote as it passes Tenby but has spectacular views of Caldey Island and coasts of the Gower and Exmoor, an excellent way to finish off the coastal path. Walking in the Preseli Hills and Mountains of Pembrokeshire

If you are staying in one of glamping bell tents, tipis or yurts and prefer your walking to be more inland orientated then the Preseli Hills have plenty of routes for all abilities and moods to suit the happy camper.
Walking in the Preseli Hills which rise some 540m above sea level is a relatively easy going experience. These hills offer intrigue and mystery as they bear more prehistoric monuments than anywhere else in Wales, beyond Anglesey. In fact 80 huge blue blocks of Dolerite stone which make up the blue circle of Stonehenge where taken from here and somehow transported some 140 miles 4500 years ago. Peaks accessible summits vast wilderness and ancient tracks such as the Golden route make walking in the Preseli Hills an excellent destination for experienced and novice walkers alike.

The link below is provided by a long distance walker’s association which details an extensive 67 mile circular walk commencing at Fishguard the route follows the Gwaun Valley, across the Preseli Ridge, on to Crymych, Cilgerran, St Dogmaels and then joins the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path returning to Fishguard.
